Lisa Holmes is a lifetime Lutheran. She is the oldest of five children. All her siblings and her mother are also members. She was born in Ames, Iowa. Has lived in Texas all but two and half years of her life. She married to Robert W. Holmes on November 14, 1987.. She has two teenage children a daughter, Amelia and son, Lucas.

Lisa began volunteering at OSL in 1996 with VBS when she was asked by her sister to bring her children to VBS. Then began helping with Sunday school soon after. She is also has been an adult Girl Scout member since 1998. She has had many volunteer roles in this organization working with adults and girls. As a child she was a member of Camp Fire Girls Inc. for 13 years. As a young adult she was the leader of a young group of Camp Fire Inc.
