Monitors. assists, plans, and organizes the different outreach activities sponsored and/or hosted by Our Savior Lutheran Church for the enrichment of the community and our congregation. This commitee shall stimulate and lead all members of the congregation in continuous, and from time to time, concerned endeavers to reawaken the spiritually indifferent and to reach others who are as of yet unwon, with the Gospel. To this end, the commitee shall periodically study the congregation in the context of it's surrounding community.
Refugee Program: This program works in partnership with the Refugee Services of North Texas to provide transitional housing and assistance for families or groups upon arrival in the United States. The refugees who arrive here have usually been living in refugee camps for safety, frequently for many years. Coming with little or no personal belongings, they have often left all or most of their family and friends behind. The Bethlehem House, located next to the church, provides a refuge for 3-6 months while employment, school enrollment and more permanent housing is obtained. During that time, the church provides guidance and friendship to these newcomers, making this very difficult transition less harsh.
Blood Drives: (www.carterbloodcare.org) OSL hosts semi-annual blood drives to assist Carter Blood Care get blood to help those in need.
Red Cross: (www.redcross.org) OSL recently became a Red Cross local disaster site should the need arise for a short term care facility, assisted by volunteers from the congregation and the Red Cross employees. Training is required and OSL hosts annual trainings for becoming a Red Cross Volunteer.
Crop Walk: (www.cropwalk.org) This program is an annual sponsorship to help raise money to donate to the World Crop Walk organization to help reduce hunger in countries where food is scarce and where people have to walk miles to get clean drinking water.
Habitat for Humanity: (www.habitat.org) OSL supports this nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization build simple, decent, affordable housing for people in need by sending volunteers from our congregation to assist others in the community.
The Lighthouse for New Hope (www.lighthousefornewhope.org) The Lighthouse For New Hope is a proven grief support program for children and adults that have experienced a significant loss in their lives. Grief impacts us all and God calls us to comfort those who mourn. Our Savior Lutheran Church has sponsored this program for our church members and our community since 2003, providing a 14 week program in the spring, summer and fall. .
